Jerky is a staple food, at least it was back in the good ol’ days when travelers needed meat that wouldn’t go bad on long journeys. Today we enjoy it for high protein snacking and the amazing flavors that are available. The Flip Flop Wife recently had the opportunity to sample jerky made by 3Bs Pub Jerky, a veteran owned company located in Virginia. It is some of the best jerky we have ever tried!

Company Story
3Bs Pub Jerky was founded by U.S. Army paratrooper, Eddie Kirby. According to their website, he loved to hunt the woods of Virginia and began making jerky as a way to use the meat. Overtime the recipes used were transferred to making beef jerky. The company uses high quality beef and focuses on small batch, “handcrafted, gourmet jerky.”
Jerky
3Bs Pub Jerky’s jerky seasoning and flavors developed over the years. They offer both spicy and non-spicy varieties for their consumers.

The company has six flavors in their beef jerky:
- Carolina Sweetz
- Fakin’ Bacon
- Sweet N Spicy
- Traditional Recipe
- Spicy Traditional
- Cherry Ghost Pepper
The base of each flavor consists of water, salt, sugar, onion, brown sugar, maple syrup, grape puree and other spices.
3Bs Pub Jerky sent us sample packages of four of the jerky flavors to try.
Cherry Ghost Pepper
Slightly sweet with a “gotcha” kick of Ghost Pepper. The sweetness hits first and you get a slight hint of the kick of heat. It isn’t until a minute or so later that the Ghost Pepper comes to haunt you. And, it does kick in, but it is in a good way. It isn’t overpowering but just enough to let you know you had something spicy.

The flavor of this one was pronounced and very good. Both my husband and I really enjoyed it…me more than my husband, as I can tolerate heat more than he can. This is the pick for the person who loves heat in their food.
Fakin’ Bacon
Who doesn’t love bacon?! The Fakin’ Bacon is almost like eating bacon. You get the smokey flavor of bacon with a hint of brown sugar.

This is a good pick for someone who likes mild jerky. It is closer to traditional flavored jerky and has no heat.
Sweet N Spicy
Sweet N Spicy is similar to the Cherry Ghost Pepper but with less heat. The sweet side is also a tad stronger. The red pepper flakes gave it some added zing.

This was easily my husband’s favorite. He couldn’t stop eating it. Think of your favorite sweet and spicy barbecue sauce and that is what this tastes like but with less tomato presence. Very good!
Traditional Recipe
3Bs Pub Jerky also sent us the Traditional Recipe, as it was their first flavor creation. The prominent seasonings for this flavor are salt and black pepper. You can see the seasonings on the jerky.

Depending on the piece, sometimes it was more salt and sometime it was more black pepper. We really enjoyed the black pepper pieces. For those who like salt, they will love this flavor. It isn’t spicy in a hot pepper sense, but the black pepper does give it a kick.

Thoughts
We thoroughly enjoyed all the flavors sent to us. The beef is high quality and makes for tender jerky. It is marinated and seasoned very well and the flavors come through nicely in each piece. Both spicy and non-spicy flavors were outstanding. It all comes down to whether you can handle the heat. The only downsides are 1) that they don’t have way to shop online for their products, and 2) it’s so good that we ate it all up and we are all out!
