The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have [it] more abundantly.
[John 10:10 NKJV]
For those who follow Christ, seek His will, and have asked him into their hearts, the enemy is not inside of them. We are filled with the Holy Spirit. [Romans 5:5] However, the enemy is all around us. [1 John 5:19] He seeks to kill, steal and destroy. In order to fight we need to know who we are fighting and how to fight them. Since the world was given over to the one of darkness the day man fell prey to his lies, it is imperative that we know our enemy is spiritual and evil and that the main way to fight is with Christ at the helm – with prayer.
Recently we watched the movie War Room. The movie is partially about an elderly woman who asks God to send her someone who needs help learning to fight with prayer. Her prayer is answered when God sends her a woman who’s marriage is on the rocks and who is struggling. The main purpose of of the movie is to show how important prayer is in our daily lives in order to defeat the enemy, evil. It’s all about knowing who the enemy is and how to fight that enemy.
Our world, our nation, has forgotten that our enemy is not each other but rather spiritual evil. We see so many fighting but the fights often do not include prayer. Without God in the fight with us the enemy, especially one this strong, will continue to wreck havoc. The enemy has roamed the planet since at least the time of Adam and Eve, so he knows just where to throw the darts to bring us down.
Over the last few years we have heard faith “leaders” mention the verse about our nation repenting, seeking Christ, and turning from our selfish, evil ways. [2 Chronicles 7:14] Yet, how many do more than just read the verse? How many of us put the verse into action and apply it to our lives? Based on the actions of many around us, the response of churches last year, and the state of our nation, I see very few doing more than reading. God wants actions, not just words.
The enemy is strong right now. It hurts to see what is happening because we aren’t “seeing” who the real enemy is in our lives and the nation. God is still stronger. He will always be stronger. We could see a turnaround, but I am not expecting it. The bible tells us the enemy will get stronger in the last days. We keep praying, though. We don’t give up. We remain in the fight until He retakes the world back for His Son. [Philippians 1:6]
We must remember prayer is the action for everything. First and foremost we must always pray – then we act. [Luke 21:36] Because of Christ the enemy will not prevail!

Remember this, [that] the enemy has reproached, O LORD, And [that] a foolish people has blasphemed Your name. [Psalm 74:18 NKJV] Preach the word! Be ready in season [and] out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. [2 Timothy 4:2 NKJV] But you should keep a clear mind in every situation. Don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Work at telling others the Good News, and fully carry out the ministry God has given you. [2 Timothy 4:5 NLT] |
