Prayer Day 9: Hope

2021-02-03 By Heather

My hope is in the Lord. When the earth shakes, nations rumble and crumble, and we don’t know what tomorrow brings our trust must be fully in the Lord.

From the moment that evil entered this world, when man fell prey to the prince of darkness, hope in anything man could accomplish was shattered. Men have tried for decades to make life better. There is not one single human who can make life perfect. When Adam and Eve chose lies over truth any hope for perfection on this earth was lost. The garden was shuttered and all that God had made perfect was shattered.

There is a hymn I love to listen to called My Hope is Built. It expresses so perfectly how our hope is in Jesus Christ alone.

My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

So many people run around in fear every single day. It doesn’t help that lawlessness is abounding and the world is spiraling out of control, out of man’s control. As believers in Christ we know that God is still in control. He never lost control. Our hope is in the One who controls everything. He even controls the prince of darkness.

The word “hope” is mentioned 143 times in 134 verses in the NKJV. (BlueLetterBible.com)  The words faith and hope occur together 16 times in 8 verses in the New Testament in the NKJV. That may not seem like many times, but each time faith is paired with hope it is in connection to our relationship with Jesus Christ.

remembering without ceasing your work of faith, labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ in the sight of our God and Father,

[1Th 1:3 NKJV]

Faith and hope are also part of God’s Armor.

But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and [as] a helmet the hope of salvation.

[1Th 5:8 NKJV]

God’s armor! Armor that is perfection. Armor that is strong enough to push back and thwart evil. So, why would we put our hope in man when hope in Jesus Christ can help us withstand anything!

God gave us Christ so we could be redeemed. He gave us Christ so we could have hope.

For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for [it] with perseverance.

[Rom 8:24-25 NKJV]

Dear Jesus,

Our hope is in you. You are hope. You are our salvation. Our world is tumbling yet you are strong. When we feel defeated we know we can turn to you. In our darkest hours your light shines. Thank you for the helmet, the hope of salvation. Hope in you transcends time and this earthly world corrupted by man. May your Holy Spirit guide us. When everything around us seems hopeless help us remember you are the Hope of the world. May our hope in you give us the strength and courage to face each day as we wait for your return.

In Jesus Name, Amen
