So then faith [comes] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
[Rom 10:17 NKJV]
Last year I purchased in-ear headphones. Since my husband is working from home I wanted a way to listen to videos and music without disturbing him. I was so excited when the earpieces arrived. I charged them up and put them to use immediately, only to find out that having them in my ears makes my inner balance falter. That means my ears feel plugged up and I get very dizzy. The earpieces are now sitting in their case and tucked away.
It was frustrating to find out that I can’t wear the in-ear headphones due to vertigo issues. However, having my ears free and clear is better than feeling unbalanced. That is how we need to keep our ears for God – free, unplugged, open to His Word. When we aren’t opening our ears to God we are unbalanced. We need to remove the plugs from our ears so we can hear God’s word.
So many people in today’s environment are refusing to listen to God’s Word. They have sealed off their ears and their hearts to His truth. We can see the devastation this has caused in our world. When God is shut out there is no hope. The world becomes unbalanced, destructive, and evil. [Jer 5:21, Pro 19:27]
As followers of Christ, we must keep our ears open. We need to remove any plugs that may be keeping us from hearing. Christ is the only way, and if we cannot hear God’s Word, we will be unbalanced and lost.
“Now therefore, listen to me, [my] children, For blessed [are those who] keep my ways.
[Pro 8:32 NKJV]
