My son, give me your heart, And let your eyes observe my ways.
[Pro 23:26 NKJV]
An author who’s books I used to read, but do not anymore, had a book titled “Where the Mind Goes, the Man Follows.” [J. Meyer] What she meant is that what we see with our eyes and put into our minds often leads to where our heart, our spirit, will go. In this world, that can mean trouble.
Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it [spring] the issues of life.
[Pro 4:23 NKJV]
God tells us to focus our attention on things that are pure and praiseworthy. He tells us that for good reason. He wants us to be solid in Him. The only way to do that is to stay focused on Him. We need to keep the eyes of our heart open to Him, and His goodness, so we can see His truth and know His love.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things [are] noble, whatever things [are] just, whatever things [are] pure, whatever things [are] lovely, whatever things [are] of good report, if [there is] any virtue and if [there is] anything praiseworthy–meditate on these things.
[Phl 4:8 NKJV]
By staying firm and eyes focused on God’s Word and those things that are pure, holy and just, our hearts will see God. We will know His goodness. We will know His holiness.
My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they [are] life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.
[Pro 4:20-22 NKJV]
Dear Jesus,
In a world full of so much evil, please help us stay focused on what is good. Give us discernment so we can tell truth from lies; evil from good. Please open the eyes of our heart so we truly see You.
In Jesus Name, Amen
