Prayer Day 7: Guiding Light

I have a love of lighthouses. There are several throughout my home in pictures on the wall and as tabletop nightlights. I’m not sure why I was drawn to them initially, but they are a wonderful reminder to me of how light guides us. Light keeps us from stumbling in the dark.

One of the lighthouses has this scripture engraved on it:

The LORD will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

[Isa 58:11 NKJV]

It is a good reminder that God is always there to guide us. He speaks through the Holy Spirit to direct us at all times. All we have to do is ask!

Oh, send out Your light and Your truth! Let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill And to Your tabernacle.

[Psa 43:3 NKJV]

Lighthouses shine their light, they do not go out but are maintained by a lighthouse keeper. They withstand storms to guide ships and keep them from crashing. Images I have seen that show lighthouses during storms put me in awe of their strength. (Lighthouses Images – Storms, Lighthouse Images – Ice)

That is exactly what God is for us! He is the solid, unshakable, guide for us. He is never surprised and knows what is coming. That means He can keep us from crashing as long as we look to and follow Him and stay solid in His Word.

For You will light my lamp; The LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

[Psa 18:28 NKJV]

Think of how He guided the Israelites out of Egypt. He used a pillar during the day and light at night to guide them.

Moreover You led them by day with a cloudy pillar, And by night with a pillar of fire, To give them light on the road Which they should travel.

[Neh 9:12 NKJV]

As long as we stay focused on Jesus, and stay in God’s Word, we will always have a guide, even in the stormiest of times in our lives.

Dear Jesus:

Your light is our guide. Like a lighthouse, you are steady and strong. No storm can bring you down because you created the world and everything it. You control everything, the winds; the waves; all of creation. When we are rocking in a stormy boat you light the way for us and protect us. Help us remember that with you everything will be ok. That our anxieties are nothing when we give them to you in prayer, supplication, and thanksgiving. You calm the storms for us and warn us away from the harsh shores. You want us safe. You are our protector. You let us know that we will have hardships but remind us that you have overcome the world. Thank you for your rock solid foundation and everlasting light.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
