This [hope] we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the [Presence] behind the veil,
[Heb 6:19 NKJV]
Are we anchored in the blood of the Lamb? Are we steadfast in our steps with Him? Are we solid in our footing with Him to know we can step out of the boat, like Peter did, and believe He will protect us – provide for us – guide us?
According to Webster’s Dictionary, an anchor, described as a noun is “a reliable or principal support” and as a verb “to secure firmly.” [Anchor] Those definitions are perfect for Christ as our anchor. He is the support for our soul and He holds us securely.
Until Christ’s resurrection, the apostles were not sure of their anchor in Christ. He was put to death and laid to rest and was no longer physically present with the apostles. They knew what Christ had told them before He was crucified, but it didn’t sink in fully. They were puzzled, lost, and deeply hurting. But God!
On that third day, God infused life back into the human body of Christ and made it perfect and incorruptible. God didn’t have to make that body incorruptible. God made the body of Christ incorruptible to fulfill the scripture and to give strength and anchor to the apostles. When they learned that Christ was, in fact, raised from dead, they knew everything He said was true!
Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
[1Pe 1:3 NKJV]
Knowing that Christ was alive made it easier for the apostles to believe Christ when He told them a helper, the Holy Spirit, would be sent to help them. They believed that the Holy Spirit would guide them and give them wisdom, strength, and gifts to help others believe in Christ as well. They were firmly anchored.
That is how we, as believers in Christ need to be – fully anchored in Him. We have not seen Him in physical form, but because of our faith, we know He is our anchor.
Then Jesus told him, “You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me.”
[Jhn 20:29 NLT]
We remain anchored in Christ by studying God’s Word and the promises of God – because God always keeps His Word.
But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.
[Jhn 20:31 NLT]
In a time where we are seeing bible prophecy fulfilled at breakneck speed, being anchored in Christ will get us to the finish line. Only through Christ will we make it.
And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight– if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister.
[Col 1:21-23 NKJV]
