The earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
[Gen 1:2 NKJV]
Jumble – noun : Definition of jumble :1 a : a mass of things mingled together without order or plan : HODGEPODGE.
Whether you are an artist, an engineer, a scientist, a writer, a chef, a homemaker – or any other role in life – we often need to take odds and ends and make something out of apparent hodgepodge. To an outsider, that hodgepodge might look like junk, but to the person who has the skills, and the gift in a role, they see possibility.
As a homemaker, I often have leftover food in the refrigerator. It tends to be a compilation of takeout and homemade food. Rarely do the items alone make a meal. Yet, put together they can make a full dish – maybe a casserole – or a soup. Seasoned chefs can take a jumble of ingredients and make a dish fit for anyone. Think of those cooking competitions where they are given one specific ingredient, no matter how odd, and the competing chefs make amazing dishes out of that ingredient.
I recently decided to make a quilt out of a hodgepodge of t-shirts. These t-shirts are mostly from places we have visited or concerts we have attended. They were taking up room in drawers and storage containers. After looking online, I saw the idea of a t-shirt quilt. People take these shirts, cut them into squares, and make amazing quilts that will last for a long time and give warmth. Master quilters can take leftover pieces of fabric and make incredible, masterpiece quilts.
Imagine how God see us. As humans we look at ourselves and think we are broken. We have life experiences that have left us broken mentally or physically. But God!
God created us. He started with nothing – an earth that was without form and void. On the sixth day He created us – man and woman. [Gen 1:27 Gen 1:31] He took dirt and formed us from the clay. He knew us even before we were formed in the womb, so He knew, and still knows, everything about us.
But now, O LORD, You [are] our Father; We [are] the clay, and You our potter; And all we [are] the work of Your hand.
[Isa 64:8 NKJV]
God created nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues. He made all of us out of clay. He takes groups, sometimes seemingly a jumble of people, and makes communities. Think of the Church. The Church is assembled from all areas and all peoples of the earth. [Rev 7:9] The Church is filled with broken people, yet God uses the Church to spread His Word and love throughout the ends of the earth.
No matter our dings and imperfections, does God not know how to take all those broken parts and turn us into a witness and light for Him that is beautiful to others – especially those who may be facing similar experiences. God can use anyone!
I follow Victor Marx online. He was raised in a horrible environment and suffered much. God took him and is using him to reach children who are suffering and using him to rescue women and children from situations that cannot be discussed until after the rescue due to the nature of the rescue. God took a broken man and has used him to lift up others who are broken.
A pastor I follow [Jack Hibbs] survived his mother’s attempted abortion. God uses him to fight for the voice of those who can’t speak for themselves. [Pro 31:8] He also leads a congregation in a state where God is last on the minds of so many residents.
No matter what we have been through, we are uniquely God’s creation. God is the master at taking the imperfect and making a masterpiece.
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
[Eph 2:10 NLT]
God can use anyone. All we have to do is be willing. Are you willing?
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here [am] I! Send me.”
[Isa 6:8 NKJV]
