The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want.
[Psa 23:1 NKJV]
As a young child one of the first passages of bible verse I ever learned was Psalm 23. Maybe you did as well, if you were raised in a bible believing family.
Over the years, as more information has filled my mind, and from lack of memorization, Psalm 23 has slowly moved to the deep recesses of my memory. That means it has been more difficult to bring it forefront when I want to recite it. I tend to recite it when I am undergoing more stress than usual or am feeling attacked in my spirit.
As a reminder to myself how important it is to know this passage, and other passages of God’s Word, I chose to dedicate this prayer day to Psalm 23.
A Psalm of David.
The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want.
[Psa 23:1}
God leads us always. He will never leave us. He will always provide our needs.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters.
[Psa 23:2]
God is our rest. He wants us to give all our troubles to Him because He is greater than any trouble we will ever have. He will still our hearts and give us rest.
He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.
[Psa 23:3]
When we feel lost in our hearts and spirits, His Word gives us strength and guidance. He refreshes our spirit and helps us stay focused on Him.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You [are] with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
[Psa 23:4]
No matter how difficult life can be for the believer; no matter the evil we may face and the shadow of death, God is walking with us. He will never let us face eternal death. His protection is forever with us.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.
[Psa 23:5]
Our enemies will see God’s grace on us. Evil will know that God is with us and that we are His children through His anointing and the Holy Spirit. With God our spirit overflows with His love. His light shines through us.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.
[Psa 23:6]
God is gracious to us. Through His Son we have His mercy forever and we have the blessing of knowing we will live forever with God.

PSALM 23 – Surely Goodness, Surely Mercy |
Dear Jesus:
Thank you so much for the Psalms written by King David. Psalm 23 is so beautiful and resonates with believers even today. No matter the generation, all of us suffer. We are so grateful for Christ, our Shepherd. We are so grateful for the protection offered to us through Him and the knowledge of eternal life with you. Jesus, help us focus more on scripture and impressing it on our hearts and in our minds. We know that scripture can be applied in all situations. Help us have the wisdom and knowledge to use it the way you have us use it.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
