But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil.”
[Pro 1:33 NKJV]
We live in a time where we use online services for just about everything. This means we have usernames and passwords that will, hopefully, keep out hackers and computer viruses. However, all one needs to do is read the headlines to know that even those don’t promise security. Now they recommend two-factor authentication. Some use an external hardware key, such as a YubiKey, to try and protect their accounts and computers. Companies build extensive firewalls with the hope of protecting their data.
Since we have faith in Christ we are prime targets for evil. Evil cannot stand that we give our devotion to the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. That means evil will do everything it can to destroy us and/or turn us away from Christ. Evil has been doing this since the very beginning when he lied to Eve.
Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
[Gen 3:1 NKJV]
The apostles, and early followers of Christ, suffered much at the hands of evil. Yet, they maintained in their faith and ministry. They knew that their eternal home was not here on earth but with God in heaven.
But in all [things] we commend ourselves as ministers of God: in much patience, in tribulations, in needs, in distresses, n stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in sleeplessness, in fastings; by purity, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love,
[2Co 6:4-6 NKJV]
They maintained because they had the power of the Holy Spirt, and the armor of God, to give them strength in everything they faced. As followers of Christ, our security rests in Christ. The apostles had a firm understanding of that. As modern day believers, who never saw Christ in person, our security is fully based on our faith in a God we cannot see but who we know is there at all times for us. [Jhn 20:29]
God tells us to always have His armor on and ready to go. Soldiers are always ready to go to battle. They train hard and have their tools at hand. As believers, part of God’s army, we are to do the same. [Eph 6:11-18]
Our security fully rests in God. He is our protector. He has and always will conquer evil. He is our firewall. He knows our name and our password is Jesus Christ, and He cannot be hacked.
You who love the LORD, hate evil! He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked.
[Psa 97:10 NKJV]
Dear Jesus,
We thank you for giving us your armor to fight back against evil. We thank you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ, as the ultimate firewall to our hearts. Lord, we know that we stumble and fall. As humans we get distracted and pulled towards the ways of the world because evil knows just which codes to use against us. However, we know we have you to protect us. When we do stumble help us see immediately and seek forgiveness. Help us keep on your armor so we are always ready. When we rise in the morning and go to bed at night help us remember you are our security. Thank you for your never ending love and forgiveness.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
