Prayer Day 60: Bride

2021-03-26 By Heather

For I am jealous for you with the jealousy of God himself. I promised you as a pure bride to one husband–Christ.

[2Co 11:2 NLT]

Being a bride can be an incredible feeling when one is marrying the love of their life. There are feelings of joy, giddiness, nervousness, anticipation – all mixed with some stress due to the planning. In general, the bride is eager to begin her new life with her soon-to-be husband.

When my, at-the-time boyfriend, proposed to me I didn’t have to think about my answer. I knew he was the one for me.

Six months into our dating I had a nervous breakdown. Instead of ditching me, he stood by me and helped me as much as he could. He went above and beyond to let me know he cared – even if it meant driving me once a week to a graduate class in another county – an hour drive minimum each way. My mental ability to drive and feel safe was taken away after the breakdown.

Two years into dating, and a lot of heartache from the mental issues that came with that breakdown, he proposed to me. Even though I was broken he still loved me that much.

Three weeks after the proposal we drove to Las Vegas and got married.

We had both congratulations and concern from family and friends on that quick wedding. Maybe it was quick, but we both knew it made sense.

The bride of Christ is made up of broken people. Christ knew that going into his life, death, and resurrection. He chose to do what it took to save us even though it was tough. And, He wants us as His bride no matter how messed up we are as humans. Why? Because he love us and his dying on the cross healed us in God’s eyes and His.

Right now the world is laughing at the church. They think we are crazy for looking up for our blessed hope. Only those who believe as we do are rejoicing in the knowledge that we have an incredible life ahead with Christ.

looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

[Tit 2:13 NKJV]

We stand strong in Christ and know we made the right decision. When Christ comes for us we will be ready!

“Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.”

[Rev 19:7 NKJV]

Dear Jesus:

We are so blessed that you chose to give your life for your bride. You knew that life as a human, and your death, were temporary and that your resurrection was our saving. Thank you for loving us so much even though we are messed up. Help us be ready for when you come for your bride. I pray you find us doing your work, Lord, but also looking up in anticipation of your arrival in the clouds. You are our choice, Jesus. No matter what the world thinks, we know you are who we want. Your church is excited for the marriage of the Lamb. Thank you for never giving up on us.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
