Some days are more than just difficult, some days pull you down into a muck and mire that seems to envelop and take over the soul. The events of the world, and daily life, can weigh heavily on the heart. The evil encompassing and destroying lives in today’s world is full of a darkness that typically only in Christ believers can see. It is a darkness so evil that if we are not constantly in God’s word and meeting with other believers we can be sucked into a depression feeling torn down and without hope.
On these dark days the first thing we need to do is turn to God. We turn to the Bible. We pray. We play worship music. You see, the devil and his minions cannot stand hearing the name of Jesus or anything associated with Christ. JD Farag says on those days when he feels most beaten down he will speak scripture and pray out loud. Jack Hibbs says he will shout out the name of Jesus over and over.
You see, there is power in the name of Jesus.
And whatever you do in word or deed, [do] all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
[Col 3:17 NKJV]
Nothing dark can be done in the name of Jesus, because Jesus is the light of the world! Christ died for us! He is the redeemer.
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
[Jhn 8:12 NKJV]
Evil must flee when we speak the name of Jesus out loud. Evil cannot tolerate the name of Jesus. Think of it as nails on a chalkboard to the demonic world.
Through Christ the darkness is defeated!
“I am leaving you with a gift–peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
[Jhn 14:27 NLT]
So, praise Jesus in good times. Praise Jesus in the storms! Jesus has conquered the world!
I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
[Jhn 16:33 NLT]
Dear Jesus:
Your word tells us that our help comes from you. You, the maker of the heavens and the earth. You, the Alpha and the Omega; the Beginning and the End. When my spirit is down, Lord, because of the stress and darkness of the world, help me remember to seek you. Help me remember to speak out your name, the name that has overcome the world. Give me peace when I am turmoiled inside. Give me hope when I feel downtrodden and defeated. Remind me that there is power in your name, Lord. We don’t need to feel the oppression of the world because we have you. Thank you, Jesus, for never leaving us or forsaking us. Thank you for being our light in a very dark world.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
