Prayer Day 59: Burdens

2021-03-25 By Heather

Cast your burden on the LORD, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

[Psa 55:22 NKJV]

We all have burdens, as we are weighted down by the troubles of this world. The last year shut us away from each other and cut us off from most everything we knew. In these difficult times maybe we have family who have yet to find Christ, and we worry about them because we see what is coming. Our hearts ache for them to know the truth.

God knows every burden we carry. He knows every thought that we have. He sees every single tear we shed. We are not forgotten. We are not meant to bear the burdens alone. God wants so much to help us.

“Come to Me, all [you] who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

[Mat 11:28 NKJV]

By taking our burdens to God we can get rest. He can give us the strength to continue. He can carry the heaviness that we are unable to manage alone. It’s a matter of putting our trust in Him to do just that.

“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

[Mat 11:29 NKJV]

A pastor I follow said in one of his sermons that he pictured taking on the yoke of Christ and letting Christ do the heavy lifting. He said he realized that Christ is so much stronger than us that, when we take on Christ’s yoke, He is doing all the pulling and our feet might not even touch the ground! [Jack Hibbs, Calvary Chapel Chino Hills] That made me picture a bull next to a calf in the same yolk. God’s strength is so much stronger than ours. We are His children and He wants to relieve our burdens. He’s right there with us every step and, as we move forward with Him, we garner His strength and His knowledge.

Even to [your] old age, I [am] He, And [even] to gray hairs I will carry [you]! I have made, and I will bear; Even I will carry, and will deliver [you].

[Isa 46:4 NKJV]

Let’s remember to look to God during our troubles. Let us lift our hands up to Him so He can lift us up. Life isn’t easy, but we can know that God is there with us always. He is ready to help us through.

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse [your] hands, [you] sinners; and purify [your] hearts, [you] double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and [your] joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

[Jas 4:7-10 NKJV]

You’re lifting my heart as I lift my hands

You’re healing my heart as I lift my hands

When the deepest sorrow weighs on your heart
When you’ve prayed for answers but the answers never come
For every tear that you cry
There’s a promise He will make your burdens light

Come and lay your burdens down
To the place where freedom is found
At the feet, at the feet of Jesus
Come and lay your burdens down
