Prayer Day 57: Courage

2021-03-23 By Heather

“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He [is] the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

[Deu 31:6 NKJV]

Who among us is truly courageous? Courage is a feeling and a behavior that comes easily to some and not so easily to others. It is defined as “mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty.” [Webster’s Dictionary] Our courage can be aligned with our abilities and how much confidence we have in those abilities. At least, that is how courage can be viewed through our human eyes.

However, God can give us courage that goes beyond our human capabilities, much like His peace that surpasses all understanding. [Phl 4:7] He knows that believers will face troubles and persecution. [Jhn 16:33]

Think about the people in the Bible whom God chose to use for His purpose. King David often faced difficult situations, yet God was there for him every step of the way and gave him courage to make it through. He made sure his son, Solomon, knew God would always give him courage. [1 Ch 28:20] How about the courage it took for Joshua to lead the Israelites into the promised land? He was filing huge shoes, those of Moses, in leadership. [Deu 31:7] Queen Esther was given a dangerous mission, to request protection and saving of her people, and God gave her the courage to approach the King. [Est 5:1-5] Each person was given courage that surpasses all understanding in order to complete the mission God gave them to accomplish.

How many of us have a mission in these days? We see so many churches and pastors retreating and falling in line with the world. We know God sees that. We also know that God is watching us as individuals. Will we be courageous if God gives us a mission or will we retreat?

Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart, All you who hope in the LORD.

[Psa 31:24 NKJV]

I pray we are courageous. I pray that we accomplish what God puts before us so He can say well done good and faithful servant when we see Him at the throne.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

[Phl 4:6 NKJV]

We were made to be courageous
And we’re taking back the fight
We were made to be courageous
And it starts with us tonight
The only way we’ll ever stand
Is on our knees with lifted hands
Make us courageous
Lord, make us courageous

My courage
No fear of hell will have its way
You are filling me with faith

Give me faith like Daniel in the lion’s den
Give me hope like Moses in the wilderness
Give me a heart like David, Lord be my defense
So I can face my giants with confidence, yeah!…

Give me hope like Moses in the wilderness
Give me a heart like David, Lord be my defense
So I can face my giants with confidence
