Prayer Day 47: Mountains

2021-03-13 By Heather

Who established the mountains by His strength, [Being] clothed with power;

[Psa 65:6 NKJV]

Mountains are beautiful terrain. Depending on where they are located they can be gorgeously green, covered in snow, tall, short, expansive, or maybe right in your backyard.

For some, climbing tall mountains is a goal. It takes training and endurance to climb most mountains, and an experienced guide to get you to the top of tallest ones in the world.

God allows spiritual mountains into our lives. We never know when we will find ourselves at the base of a life mountain, but we know that we’ll eventually come to one. Much like the mountains that God created in nature to give character to the land, God allows spiritual mountains in our lives to build our endurance and faith in Him.

So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

[Mat 17:20 NKJV]

In my own life I can look back and see where spiritual mountains have been placed. They were times of struggle, the need to push forward, in order to make it through. Sometimes it might look like the same mountain every time. In my education and career, which was quite short but stretched out over a 20-year span, I had two mountains I continued to face. I believe they were there until I learned what God wanted me to understand. Once I understood what God was teaching me, those mountains faded away.

God can move mountains, and it only requires a little faith in Him, but, more often than not, He wants you to trust Him to help you climb it.

And though I have [the gift of] prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

[1Co 13:2 NKJV]

Our life events are not meant to be easy when we follow Christ. The events are there to build us up so we can be strong witnesses for Him. We can ask God to remove the mountain, but if He chooses not to move it, we submit to His will and ask for the wisdom and endurance to make it to the top. Christ did just that, and because He chose to obey, we have eternal life with God.

He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

[Mat 26:42 KJV]
My Savior, He can move the mountains
My God is mighty to save
He is mighty to save

Forever, author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave

Dear Jesus:

Thank you for choosing to submit to the Father and follow through on your purpose of coming to earth as a man. You chose to climb that tall and horrific mountain so we could have eternal life with you. Lord, when we face mountains, and ask for it to be moved, help us submit to the Father’s will just as you did. Give us the endurance to climb the mountains we face, if that is the Father’s choosing. We know that suffering brings endurance and the ability to push forward to the finish line. We love you, Lord. We worship you.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
