For we know that if our earthly house, [this] tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
[2Co 5:1 NKJV]
Home is a place where most people feel safe and secure. It is an environment where the surroundings are familiar and there are typically no surprises to startle us. It is described by Webster’s Dictionary as “: a familiar or usual setting : congenial environment.” (Home) We know that, due to human nature, not everyone has a home or feels safe in the one where they live. Home for them can have no meaning at all or can mean insecurity.
Daily now I think about my heavenly home. I think many of us in the church are tired. We see the corruption and deceit on a daily basis and it is getting worse. God is allowing it to happen. It has to happen. What was once a place I enjoyed, and didn’t mind living in, has become a place of insecurity.
Thoughts of insecurity and sadness of what we see happening do not come from depression. They come from knowing this is not our permanent home and from seeing what was once a somewhat decent place become more evil.
Our role as Christ believers and followers on this earth, our temporary home, is to step out daily in faith (not fear) and share God’s grace and love and truth. At the same time we long for our eternal home, the glorious homes being prepared for us by Christ in heaven.
“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if [it were] not [so], I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
[Jhn 14:2 NKJV]
We live in our earthly bodies for an appointed amount of time and no longer than 120 years at the most.
And the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, for he [is] indeed flesh; yet his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.”
[Gen 6:3 NKJV]
Whether we live to meet Christ in the air, or we depart sooner, only God knows. Either way, we know we have an eternal, safe and loving home with Christ waiting for us. That is our eternal, blessed hope.

Chris Tomlin – Home (Lyric Video)
Dear Jesus:
We long for our heavenly home. We long to be with you in paradise for eternity. So many lives are hurting and longing for a better home. Lord, the sadness, or insecurity, we feel here in our earthly bodies is only temporary but it can feel like forever. Please give us strength to go about our days doing your work. Help us know how to respond to the things that make us feel insecure or maybe even afraid during these times. You alone are our strength, You alone are our guide. You alone are our comforter. You alone can get us through what may still be to come before we go home. Help us make it to your glorious appearing, our blessed hope.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
