Prayer Day 38: Words

2021-03-04 By Heather

Apply your heart to instruction, And your ears to words of knowledge.

[Pro 23:12 NKJV]

Words are small and yet they have a huge impact on our lives. Words can be seen or heard. When we communicate through words we have an affect on others, be it positive or negative. Through words we can learn truth or falsehoods.

The word ‘words’ “occurs 568 times in 543 verses in the NKJV, including 543 exact phrases.” God’s Word is true from beginning to end. He knew that words, His words, would be our guide to daily life.

The words of the LORD [are] pure words, [Like] silver tried in a furnace of earth, Purified seven times.

[Psa 12:6 NKJV]

His Word guides us in our paths; they light the way for us when we get lost in the darkness.

Your word [is] a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

[Psa 119:105 NKJV]

The more we are in the Word the more we gain wisdom, discernment and understanding.

Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way.

[Psa 119:104 NKJV]

As we keep God’s Word in our hearts we learn how to live for Him. When we don’t know what to say, God will give us the words when we seek Him.

  • We learn how to be a witness to others.
  • We learn how to lift others up in times of need.
  • We learn to share God’s love through kindness and truth.

Words are powerful and cannot be taken back. Due to the nature of words we must be cautious in what we say and write. God created words. We are to use them wisely.

Words can build us up
Words can break us down
Start a fire in our hearts
Or put it out
I don’t wanna say a word
Unless it points the world back to You

Words – Hawk Nelson (lyrics)

Words (Official Music Video) – Hawk Nelson

Dear Jesus,

You, Oh Lord, created language. You created words so that we might communicate with others. Your words are for instruction; correction; encouragement; praise; worship of you. We hear words today, Lord, that break hearts, destroy marriages, lock up hearts, pit person against person and church against church, and blaspheme you. Please forgive us for abusing the languages you gave us. Forgive us for not defending your Word when we hear it twisted. Your Word is our guide. When we do not use it we find ourselves lost and feeling hopeless. Help us, Lord, be better at using words. Help us use them to lift up rather than to tear down. We know that words are powerful; and Your Word is mighty and true. We thank you for the ability to use words. Help us use them wisely.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
