God isn’t fancy. Well, that is to say He often works in small ways and non-flashy ways. Heaven is another thing altogether. Heaven, based on how the Bible describes it, is definitely fancy and beautiful. Fit for the King of Kings!
Keep it simple in prayer means no fanfare. It means no extravagant verbiage required. It’s easy to get discouraged in prayer when you hear a pastor praying and it sounds so educated and perfect. God didn’t give everyone that gift. God did give us words, though. He gave us every day language, whichever language you speak. He created them all.
Therefore its name is called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of all the earth.
[Gen 11:9 NKJV]
God lets us know that He prefers honest, from the heart and spirit, simple prayer. He longs to hear from us and it doesn’t have to sound royal. As one who isn’t versed in fancy speech, I find it comforting to know God doesn’t desire fancy verbiage.
And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen [do]. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
[Mt 6:7 NKJV]
God desires a close, relationship quality conversation, like a father to a child.
Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.
[Mar 10:15 NKJV]
On this third day of prayer, in the 100 days of prayer, we can know that God just longs to hear from us. We can keep it simple. Let your heart pour out. God is waiting.
Dear Jesus:
Thank you for being gracious and merciful; for loving me even when I feel inadequate and have lack of words. When words are scarce my mind, and I don’t know how to express my thoughts, you know exactly what I will say before I say it. You tell us to come to you like children, because it takes that type of faith, simple child-like faith, to put our trust in you. Lord Jesus, even now my words are few because my mind is churning like a human rather than letting my spirit speak. I will meditate in your Word and be still.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Selah
[Psa 4:4 NKJV]
