“He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.
[Luk 6:48 NKJV]
What is a foundation? Why is it significant to our walk and relationship with Christ?
Foundation, as defined by Webster’s Dictionary, has two primary meanings for foundation as a noun.
1 – a basis (such as a tenet, principle, or axiom) upon which something stands or is supported; 2- an underlying base or support
Foundation – Webster’s Dictionary
A foundation in relation to our faith in Christ is what supports our belief in him. It is the basis for our faith in Christ and believing that He was born human, died on the cross, was resurrected, and will return one day for the church. Without a firm foundation our faith can crumble. That is why it is so important to be in God’s word frequently. That’s why it is so important to have His word written in our hearts.
Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.
[Psa 119:11 NKJV]
As I look at our nation, and how it has fallen, it is apparent to me how far our nation has gone away from a firm foundation in Christ. I see how weak the church has been in many states. Faith was built on what people wanted to believe rather than on truth. So many churches had foundations on weak, apostate beliefs, so they crumbled as if built on sand rather than solid rock.
“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:
[Mat 7:26 NKJV]
Unfortunately, many of those churches do not realize even now what has happened to them. They follow along with society and think they are doing a just act.
How are we, firm believers in Christ, to respond? How do I, as an individual, respond?
God gave each of us different gifts and abilities. Some have the gift to be on the front lines where the action, fighting for truth, takes place. Others of us have gifts to help or to pray. Only through seeking God and asking, and knowing the strengths He gave us, can we know how to respond.
Today, let’s seek Him and ask Him what we are to do. He’ll tell us if we really listen.
Let’s get a strong foundation again for our personal walks with Christ. Let’s pray for the church to find a solid foundation again. Only God knows when He will send Christ for us, so we focus on returning to solid ground. We focus on regaining that solid footing in His word. We focus on helping others return to, or find, solid ground before it is too late.
My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand, All other ground is sinking sand. My Hope is Built |
