Prayer Day 18: Little Yes

The LORD [is] far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous.

[Pro 15:29 NKJV]

Sometimes God gives us a ‘Yes’ answer to a small prayer so we can be reminded that He is listening. It might be an answer to a prayer that seems like an every day situation, but in your heart you know He said “Yes.”

I pray You’ll be our eyes
And watch us where we go
And help us to be wise
In times when we don’t know
– The Prayer

We don’t get snow in our town very often. When snow does fall it is usually so little that it is gone within an hour. Our last major snowfall was about five years ago. This year, due to all the stress from 2020 and what has taken place so far in 2021, I prayed for snow. It didn’t have to be a large snowfall, but I told God I’d really like to see some snow as it is very peaceful for me.

Earlier this week I received an email from someone who frequently does work on our house. He said, “Get out your snowblower!” Since I do not watch news I had to ask my husband what he meant. My husband told me that, oh yes, we are supposed to get snow towards the end of the week. That’s when I looked at my weather app. Sure enough, snow was predicted!

Now, the day it was to start is the day I normally go out to get food from a diner we are trying to help. Like many restaurants, they have been badly affected by the lockdowns. According to the app, the snow was supposed to start around noon.

That had me conflicted. I wanted the snow, but I know both the diner owner and I look forward to the day I pick up food. They have been incredibly kind to us, and we found out that they are also believers. We have had the opportunity to pray together the days I go in to pick up food.

So, I prayed. I said, “Lord, I asked for snow. I am excited for the snow. However, you know I go to the diner the day the snow is to start. Will you please hold it off so I can still go? Thank you, Amen.”

The night before it was supposed to snow my husband and I both watched outside for snow. The next morning I kept looking. Everything stayed clear, but the temperatures did begin to drop. I was able to go pick up food and get home. My husband even made it to and back from an appointment he had in the evening. The snow started around 10PM that night.

Coincidence? As a believer in Christ, I don’t believe in coincidence.

I believe God said “Yes” to my prayer. It is a reminder to me that He does hear us. I’ve been praying a lot over the last year, along with many other Christians, and haven’t seen Him say “yes” to very many of the prayers. God has His ways. They are greater and better than ours. However, He does hear us and He listens.

[He is] the Rock, His work [is] perfect; For all His ways [are] justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright [is] He.

[Deu 32:4 NKJV]

So, don’t give up. He has three different answers: Yes, Wait, and No. You never know which answer it will be until you ask. If the answer appears to be Wait or No, remember that His plan is so much better.

For this [is] God, Our God forever and ever; He will be our guide [Even] to death.

[Psa 48:14 NKJV]

The Prayer – Josh Groban & Charlotte Church

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for the little yes’s. We know you hear us when we pray but sometimes it just feels like it goes into the heavens with no return response. You are amazing, Father, and awesome. You know what is best for us. You are our guide and protector. We pray Your will is our will and not our own. Even when we think you are being quiet, help us remember that you are always there because You will never leave us. Forgive us when we doubt. When enemies surround us You are there. Give us strength for the days ahead. Give us wisdom and discernment. Guard our hearts and minds. Thank you for your mercy, grace, and love.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
