Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth.
[Proverbs 27:1 NKJV]
What’s next? Whenever we are finishing up a phase in our lives, or a task, the typical question we get asked is “What’s next?” When we finish high school people ask where we are going to college, or if we are going to college. After a man and woman get married the question is often, “So, when are you having children?” When we leave a job we get asked where we are going next? When we retire the question is, “ What are you going to do in your retirement?” In our minds there always has to be a what’s next.
A dear friend recently asked me what I was going to do next after I completed this 100 Days of Prayer journey. My answer: I have no idea what comes next. I have some ideas, but I truly have no idea what God has in His plan next for my story line.
As humans we want to know what comes next in our lives when we complete something. However, what I have been reminded on this journey is that God is in control. God has a plan for our lives. We rarely know what His next step is for us in His story. We are not to worry about what’s next. We pray for guidance, and can plan for outcomes, but only God knows what is truly next in our lives.
I have literally been doing this journal day-by-day. Most times I will wake in the morning with a word or song in my head and I will know that is my topic for the day. However, there have also been days when I don’t have a clue what to write until the day is nearly done. I could say I spent those days in prayer asking God to direct my thoughts to a topic, and some days I did. Other days the prayers were sporadic during the day as I battled headaches. On days when I really struggled I just wanted to get the journal written, and I asked God to forgive me for wanting to “just get it over with for the day.” That is proof in the pudding that I am fully human and far from perfect.
That’s how God wants us to be. He wants us to prepare with Him so we are ready when it is time to be be a light and voice for Him to others. Even when we don’t know what is next, or what tomorrow will bring, we have God at our side every moment of every day. We can call out to Him and ask for wisdom and guidance.
As my 100 Days of Prayer journey comes to an end, I’ll “plan” to keep doing what I have been doing outside of it. I’ll prayerfully work on being the wife God wants me to be to my husband. I will care for and love our senior Chihuahua. Maybe I’ll return to working on the t-shirt quilt I started before working on this prayer journey. There are other projects I put on hold as well. My prayer warrior friend and I have discussed beginning a weekly, one-on-one bible study on top of our weekly prayer and chat session. If there is anything specific God wants me to take up and do, I’ll pray I hear Him so I can go that direction.
I do not know what each minute, hour, day, month, and year will hold for me. However, that’s ok because God is either at my side, leading me, or carrying me. Thus, I will plan the best I know with God at my helm and will take it a day at a time. God’s got this – no matter the outcome!

To everything [there is] a season, A time for every purpose under heaven: [Ecclesiastes 3:1 NKJV] And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to [His] purpose. [Romans 8:28 NKJV] In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, [Ephesians 1:11 NKJV] Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. Dear Jesus, You’ve got this! You have my life. I don’t always have the words and actions but you never give up on me. This prayer journey has opened my eyes to more of your Word. I pray that I don’t forget what I have learned. I pray I don’t set it aside anymore but rather put You first in all I do. Thank you for your love and mercy and grace. Lord, you are my strength and my shield. You are my help at all times, especially when things are not going smoothly. Praise you Lord for all you do. Praise you for the blessings you send us. Guide me, guide anyone reading these journey posts, as we continue in our lives. Help us, Lord, to always seek you first in everything we do. You are the Alpha and the Omega. You are the light unto our path both day and night. Your plans are so much greater than ours. You have defeated evil. Glorious God, you are mighty. Thank you for your unfailing love. In Jesus Name, Amen. |
