Post-Lasik: When Can You Wear Eye Makeup?

LASIK Eye Surgery

One of the things they tell you in the Lasik after care instructions is to avoid wearing makeup for the first month or two. This is because they do not want you rubbing your eyes or getting anything in your eyes. This means, no eye shadow, no mascara, no foundation around the eyes, pretty much nada nothing.

Now, I don’t tend to wear makeup…long story, but I do like to wear it for special occasions. When I do wear makeup, I prefer the natural mineral type (like Jane Iredale) and ones that wash off with just warm water or a simple makeup remover cloth.

So, when one of my Facebook friends had an online makeup party…think Tupperware, jewelry, other but don’t have to leave your home, I was very interested in reading up on this brand and trying it out.

Younique is an online only supplier, this means the parties as well. They tout their products as being natural, with no fillers. They are also cruelty free (no animal testing) which is huge in my book.

When I asked how safe it was for people post-Lasik, and how easily it washed off, I got the following answer:

… no scrubbing just melts away. You can gently massage it off or peel the product away from your own lashes.

That worked for me!

I ordered four Moodstruck Minerals Pigment Powders and one of their 3D Fiber Lash Mascaras. They have numerous colors in both, but I chose to go with some basic colors in eye shadow and the black in the 3D Lashes.

The eye shadow pigments are outstanding. A bare dusting of powder will cover your eyelid. It covers and stays very well. The 3D Fiber Lash Mascara is simple to put on, and it does wash off very easily. I used it on my top lashes only. Since it comes off easily, the eye drops I am using would make it come off most likely. Besides, I really did not want overly long bottom lashes. They would rub against my cheek. 🙂

When it came time to remove the makeup, I literally used a basic wet wipe. You can also use warm water and a bit of soap or a makeup removing cloth, but the wipe (and I only used one) did the job. No scrubbing was required. I gently wiped my eyes with one wipe and that got all the makeup off.

Just had to give my two cents on this eye shadow and mascara. It definitely works well for post-Lasik eyes.

Daily Observations

  • Eyes still dry. Using drops throughout the day.
  • Switched back to preservative free single use vial eye drops to avoid irritation.
  • Eyes are sensitive to sunlight and strong indoor lighting.
  • Still taking Fish Oil.
  • Still drinking lots of water to hydrate eyes.
  • Researching natural supplements for dry eye.
