Today was my one week post Lasik procedure follow up appointment with my eye doctor. She works in conjunction with Dr. Teplick. Dr. Clare Midson had her Lasik done by Dr. Teplick 10 years ago, so I felt secure in Dr. Teplick’s capabilities and in Dr. Midson’s, since Dr. Teplick partners with her.
This was my first day driving since having Lasik done on my eyes. It was absolutely fabulous to see all the signs without glasses! The sun was bright, and there was wind blowing, so I wore my awesome (LOL!) goggles to the appointment (and during my errands after).
Dr. Midson did a quick check with her vision guide…you know, which is better? 1 or 2? 3 or 4? My eyes are bit dry, and are still adjusting, and will be for a few months she said. The result today was 20/20. That is still AWESOME!
She also checked my tear ducts to see how they are mending. The receptors, or connections, of the eye to the tear ducts get cut a bit during Lasik. Mine are healing well. She said to keep up with the eye drops and to take Fish Oil each day as well. The fish oil helps keep the eyes more moist. Oh, and I got kudos from her on my water intake to help hydrate my eyes.
I asked her about wearing the goggles at night still, since the instructions said I could stop after seven days. She said I would be fine, but if I felt more comfortable, another week would more than suffice for keeping my eyes protected. By that time the cornea flap will have reconnected to the eye and have a good secure hold.
I also asked her about a way to wipe my eyelids, since after Lasik, one is not supposed to wipe or really touch the eyelids for a good month after. She recommended OCuSOFT Lid Scrub Original, Pre-Moistened Pads. They are soft, and you can glide them softly over the eyelid without the need to press. I just used them a few minutes ago, and my eyelids feel clean again! You really do not want to press at all. Just glide it over the eyelid.
Other than that, my eyes got a clean bill of health. Yea! I go back in one month for the one month post procedure appointment. She will do a more thorough check on my vision then to see where my eyes may be stabilizing.
Lastly, I received my 3M SecureFit Protective Eyewear SF201AS, Clear Lens, Anti Scratch Coating today. So much better for inside if the light is not hurting your eyes! I am so happy to have them. I could go without them, but I have to precious dogs that love to kiss my face and sneeze. Ha! So, this is an extra precaution I have taken. These are very light weight and perfect for after Lasik.
Daily Observations
- Wear goggles when going out.
- Not unusual to go through an entire box of 100 Refresh eye drops the week following Lasik.
- Goggles no longer needed at night after one week, but two weeks is the better option.
- Eyes dried out a lot when I was out. Carry lots of Refresh!
- Ocusoft Eye Wipes are great for a light cleaning eye lids until you can scrub your face and eyes again in the shower.
