Lasik Journal: Pre-Jitters (48 Hours Prior)

2014-07-22 By Heather

LASIK Eye Surgery

It is 48 hours (or a little less) until my Lasik procedure. Now, for those that don’t know me, I am a worry wart. I get anxious over things I can’t control. So, what did I do today? I was reading up on all the things that can go WRONG with Lasik, such as dry eye, floaters, etc. Now, I know that was not all that intelligent to go and get myself worked up. However, I made myself feel better by saying it is better to be informed (and have things turn out way better!) than be uninformed, have things go wrong, and then get mad because I wasn’t aware.

Then I decided to read up on the Lasik surgeon, Dr. Teplick, who is to do my procedure. I did not find him in the YP. He is the one that did my eye doctor’s (Dr. Midson) Lasik, so that should have made me feel a bit better just with that information. But, I went on to Yelp, anyway, to see what I could find out. He has all five star ratings! That really makes me feel better.

Now the hunt is on for preservative-free eye drops that I will need to use consistently for the next few months. I purchased one today that said presevative-free, but I did not see the fine print that read “after it hits your eye.” So, I am on the hunt for single-use, preservative-free eye drops. Single-use means that the drops are in tiny packages that get used once. My guess is that this keeps any bacteria from forming on the bottle. My other guess is that, since it is preservative-free, the moment you open the little capsule, exposure to the elements can break down the formula. TheraTear offers both single-use and in bottle form. I heard that Costco carries bigger boxes of the single-use, so I will go there tomorrow. I found the TheraTear bottle form at Walgreens.
