If you spend much time on any blog you will notice most have a comments section at the bottom of each post. Thus, it may stand out that comments are turned off on The Flip Flop Wife.
Why are comments turned off?
As a blogger who returned to blogging after a two year hiatus, I realized that there are more bots than before leaving spam comments. At its infancy, this blog was receiving around seven spam comments per day on the same post – never any others. I know that is a very low number, but I began to think of the larger number it could grow to as more readers found the site. I want to spend my time creating new content for the readers versus managing spam.
I know there are spam filter plugins out there, but even they aren’t perfect.
How can I interact?
Social media is amazing these days. The Flip Flop Wife is on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. I will do my best to share, comment, or follow back. The Flip Flop Wife also has a contact form. Feel free to send a message but please keep in mind that I am not able to reply to every email. Depending on the content of the message, it may used in one of my posts to get conversation going on the other social media platforms.
I like what Matt Gemmell wrote on his blog about connecting. His two favorite channels of interaction are other blogs and Twitter. In my opinion, both of those are great options for interaction. Writing a blog post that mentions content from The Flip Flop Wife gives you the opportunity to write longer, in-depth thoughts. Send me a quick email about the post, and I may just share your post! Twitter lets you give a quick “shout out”, be it positive or negative, and allows for quick interaction in the form of a re-tweet or a like.
Will comments ever come back?
In all honesty, I don’t know if I’ll turn the commenting feature back on. I’m going to see how things go using other platforms and how much interaction occurs there. If I decide to turn comments on you’ll know because the comment section at the bottom of posts will be back.
