When life hands you lemons sometimes it easy to figure out how what to do with the situation. Sometimes the fix isn’t a solution we think will work, but God can make anything work to His advantage.
Take the idea of combining chocolate and lemons. Yuck!
I agree. The idea of adding chocolate to lemon sounds disgusting, at first, but then you start thinking of the ways that lemon and chocolate can complement each other.
Say, lemon cupcakes with white chocolate frosting.
Or, how about dark chocolate filled with lemon cream.
Yup, now you get the idea.
And, don’t I mean “make lemonade?”
In this case, I do mean chocolate.
The other day I was making what were supposed to be chocolate peanut cluster filled cookies. Instead it turned into one big cookie with funny lumps. This all relates to my “winging it” in the world of baking. I don’t know what I am doing in the kitchen many days. Common sense helps me along, so I get lucky a good percentage of the time with the outcome, but I do have my days where the recipe flops.
The days the recipes go wild and wrong, I just add chocolate (metaphorically sometimes).
The idea is to focus on what is needed to make something better. I liken it to the “Pollyanna” affect, I suppose. (And, if you don’t know who Pollyanna is then you missed a really good book in your childhood and movie, actually, starring actress Hayley Mills.) The movie is all about looking at the bright side of things. Pollyanna was great at looking at the positive in every situation.
As a human, I don’t naturally think that way. However, God does think that way. And, if I focus on making His thoughts my thoughts I can overcome and look at the bright side. He is my strength. He is my fortress. He is my guide. As long as I let Him, He’ll give me what I need to make things better.
So, to my one big cookie I added chocolate. It turned out decently in the end, and it was still quite yummy, sugary, and tasty. It just didn’t look the way I had planned it to turn out.
Life hasn’t really turned out the way I thought it would, either, but I know God has a plan for my life and to Him it is perfect. He is the chocolate to my lemons, and He knows how to make great recipes in all of us!
