There are many exams and treatment options available for dog nasal (nose) cancer. Since we chose palliative care, the exams and treatment costs were minimized. We thought making this information available might be helpful for other dog owners so they have a general idea of what it might cost to keep their beloved pet comfortable for as long as the pet has decent quality of life (QOL).
Since Abra was part of a Banfield Pet Wellness Plan, some of the general costs (such as a vet visit) were covered under pre-paid services. If a pet is not under a wellness plan, or no pet insurance is carried, then vet visits alone add up. A standard vet visit at Banfield was around $35-45 per visit just to have a pet seen. Each time Abra was seen by Banfield this “vet visit fee” was not charged. Any cost that would have been charged if Abra was not on the Pet Wellness Plan is indicated by “waived.” Medications were also discounted by about 10% on the wellness plan.
