There are quite a few options for breakfast at the Disneyland Anaheim Resort. One can make reservations for a character breakfast or they can find quick, relatively inexpensive breakfast meals at various locations in the park. During our most recent trip we decided to give two quick service restaurants a try. Both the Red Rose Taverne and Flo’s V8 Diner serve a variety of dishes for breakfast.
Disneyland
Since we were staying on the resort, we took advantage of the Early Magic Hour and had breakfast at the Red Rose Taverne.
Red Rose Taverne
The Red Rose Taverne has several options for breakfast. The items that are most likely to appeal to adults are the Breakfast Sandwich, Breakfast Flatbread, Garden Vegetable Hash and the Breakfast Platter. (Note: They do have sweet options as well.) We chose to try the Breakfast Sandwich and the Breakfast Platter.
Breakfast Sandwich
The sandwich was sizable and could easily feed more than one person. It consists of “Glazed Ham, Cheesy Egg Soufflé, Hickory-smoked Bacon, Country Aïoli on a Brioche Bun.” It is served with Red-Eye Jus and your choice of Taverne Potatoes or Fresh Fruit.
The flavors blended well together and the potatoes were nicely seasoned. The egg was fried rather than scrambled, so the yolk stood out. The Country Aïoli gave an extra “pop” to what could have been a just another breakfast sandwich.
Breakfast Platter
The Breakfast Platter is similar to what you might get at any other restaurant. It comes with “Scrambled Eggs, Bacon and Taverne Potatoes served with a Croissant.”
The price was reasonable, and again, this platter could be shared between two people (if they have a smaller appetite). It made for a filling, get your day started meal.
Donut Cart
The donut cart is situated near the entrance to the castle and across from the statue of Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney. They change their donuts out daily and seasonally. The donuts are fantastic for any age, but as adults we can admire the effort that Disney puts into the creativity of the flavors.
S’mores Donut
On the day we were at Disneyland early enough to get a donut from the cart (they sell out quickly), they had the S’mores donut.
The donut was tasty and very messy! It did not have a filling, as they put all the layers on top of the donut. The chocolate chunks were as one would expect with a s’more. The crushed graham cracker and marshmallow creme were the “icing” on the cake so to speak. It was the messiest donut we have ever attempted to eat, but it was delicious, just like eating a real s’more!
California Adventure (DCA)
California Adventure has many more options now for meals. One of our favorite restaurants there is Flo’s V8 Cafe since it opens early and has quick service and mobile ordering.
Flo’s V8 Cafe
We love Flo’s V8 Cafe. Sitting in the restaurant directly out of the movie is such fun, and the menu items are delicious. We decided to eat there on our second Early Magic Hour day. We ended up trying most of the menu items available for breakfast.
Chicken Tamale Breakfast
A fantastic blend of Chicken, Scrambled Eggs, Salsa Verde, and Pico de Gallo.
One of the most flavorful breakfast entrees we have had at Disneyland. Everything about this tamale was perfection.
Brioche French Toast
A sweet diversion from the traditional pancakes and waffles served at the park. The French Toast is baked and served with Salted Caramel Sauce and Bananas.
This was so good it was difficult to stop eating it. Thankfully, we had three people to help devour it!
American Breakfast
Although this is a traditional breakfast, it was tasty and filling. It has Scrambled Eggs, Breakfast Potatoes, Bacon and a Biscuit.
A good dose of protein before heading off to gallivant around the park. The bacon was nicely crisp. The biscuit was a pleasing switch up from toast or a croissant.
Thoughts
Both the Red Rose Taverne and Flo’s V8 Cafe offer fantastic choices for breakfast for adults and children. The Red Rose Taverne has a more diverse offering for adults, but Flo’s V8 Cafe came through with the amazing French Toast. If you are headed to the parks, and have an early morning option with your ticket, both restaurants are worth trying. Whichever restaurant you pick, enjoy and savor! Mobile ordering is available for both restaurants through the Disneyland app. Ordering via phone will decrease the wait time for getting your food. The lines can get long at both restaurants, especially if you choose to get breakfast later in the morning.
