When one becomes a stay at home wife unintentionally they can have no one idea the thoughts that can come to the mind.
At least, I had NO clue!
This week I was cleaning my fridge out a bit (it really needed it!). It is one of those tasks you get to do whether you are a stay at home wife or not. As I was wiping down the inside, way in the back under the crisper drawers, I found dog hair. Ugh!
We have two beautiful, precious, lovable, rescue dogs. And they shed! A lot!
Their hair somehow made it to the back of the bottom shelf in our fridge. Thankfully I rarely put anything down there!
It was a pain to clean!
That’s when the thought hit me.
Our hearts can be like the bottom of that fridge, hiding sin in the corners where we least think about it.
…if I have concealed my sin as people do, by hiding my guilt in my heart… ~ Job 31:33
We all have sin in our hearts.
Everyone lies to their neighbor; they flatter with their lips but harbor deception in their hearts. ~ Psalm 12:2
God says He knows our hearts, good and bad.
…would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart? ~ Psalm 44:21
Instead of hiding our sin, we need to be asking God to search our hearts, so we can be free from that sin.
Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind… ~ Psalm 26:2
I know I don’t want sin lingering in my heart. For one, it makes me feel bleh inside. I don’t like feeling bleh. I know I can’t hide anything from God and I don’t want to. I love God and want to do the right thing and please Him. Just as we are to obey our earthly parents so are we to obey our heavenly Father.
I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart. ~ Psalm 40:8
Like the dog hair in the back of the fridge that to be cleaned out, so must we ask God to search our hearts continuously to help us see what we have been hiding. We confess and ask for cleansing so we can bask in His love rather than in fear.
A dirty fridge is unpleasant and disgusting. A sinful heart is unpleasant to God.
So thankful for God’s grace and forgiveness!
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. ~ Psalm 51:10
