God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. [1 John 4:9 NLT]
Today is the first day of December 2021. This month begins the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. As our nation prepares to celebrate, some celebrating the birth of Jesus and some celebrating the secular version with Santa, SCOTUS is hearing a case that could change the course of history regarding life before birth.
As believers we know that life comes from God. His love for us is so great that He sent His son, Jesus, to earth as a human baby who would grow up to be the sacrifice for our sins. This baby grew in the womb and was born to a young, poor couple. God sent life to give us eternal life.
Unfortunately, evil hates life. Life is a reminder that we are created in the image of God, and evil cannot stand that. Evil has been trying to eliminate humans ever since God created Adam and Eve.
The case being heard by SCOTUS today will give definition to life. Evil will do everything to convince SCOTUS that life in the womb does not have value. As believers In Christ we know every life has value, and that value starts the minute life is conceived.
For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. [Psalm 139:13 NKJV]
Senses in the Womb
In order to react to outside stimuli, there must be life. An inanimate object cannot respond to stimuli because it doesn’t have senses. Humans have senses: touch, taste, smell, hearing, and sight.
Babies respond to outside stimuli. The Bible tells us that when the baby (John the Baptist) heard Mary’s voice, he reacted joyfully. And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. [Luke 1:41 NKJV] The baby in her womb reacted to sound. The baby was able to hear what was happening outside the womb.
Filled with the Holy Spirit
God created us in His image. When we choose to admit we are sinners and accept Christ into our lives we are filled with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is one person of the Trinity and a guide to us. Only humans can be filled with the Holy Spirit. Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. [Acts 2:38 NKJV]
While John the Baptist was still in the womb, God filled him with the Holy Spirit. For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. [Luke 1:15 NKJV] God anointed the baby even before he was born.
As the first day of December comes to an end, let’s be praying for God to convict the hearts and minds of SCOTUS. Pray that He will open their eyes to the truth about life. Jesus came that we might have life. That life begins in the womb.
Did not He who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same One fashion us in the womb? [Job 31:15 NKJV]
