Relationships Build the Memories that are Left When You Die

Life comes down to papers and photos, and sometimes not even that. The important things in life are not what you have collected over the years but the relationships you develop.

Over the last 10 months I have been handling the affairs of an estate of a relative I loved very much. It has been the most difficult task to date that I have ever had to perform. In a matter of two trips, each a week long, we inventoried, tossed, and packed all her personal belongings. We ended up shipping four boxes home that are filled with papers and photos and little trinkets that we thought might be wanted by someone in the family. Everything else was sold to an auction house.

Sunday Musings: Giving Thanks

Yesterday I was craving Thanksgiving/Christmas dinner. I was craving the traditional turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing (more like some sort of potato dish but the general idea of a side dish), fluff salad, green bean casserole, and gravy. It all came about because we watch were watching a Christmas episode of a TV show (re-run on Netflix).

I told my husband, I want a holiday dinner. Why does it only have to be in November or December? Aren’t there other months where we can celebrate? They came up with Christmas in July so why not Thanksgiving in May or June?

Sweet Chili Ham and Swiss Rolls

Ham and Swiss. That is not a combination I have eaten much of in the past years. My husband isn’t a huge fan of ham so I have kept turkey and other meats in the house instead.

A few months ago, though, a relative shared a picture of a ham and swiss sandwich on King’s Hawaiian rolls.
